Business Development Executive (Florida)
Level: Individual contributor | Type: Direct Hire, Full Time | Location: Florida (Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando or Tampa) | Range: $80,000 - $105,000 base, plus a performance plan
The role
Our client is a mechanical, plumbing and HVAC construction contractor working across four Florida markets: Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa. Their customers are general contractors, owners, developers, property managers, architects and engineers, and most of their work arrives through relationships built well before a project is released for bid.
You own the commercial pipeline for the whole company. That means finding and opening new accounts, keeping an existing book warm, and carrying each opportunity from first contact through proposal, pricing with Estimating, negotiation and signed contract. Success is measured two ways: the discipline of the pipeline you build, and the profitable revenue you close.
You report to the division president. The role has no direct reports.
What you will own
- New business across the four markets: identify the right customers and project types, open relationships ahead of project releases, and convert them into qualified opportunities and awarded work.
- An assigned book of existing clients: regular, useful contact to surface upcoming work, catch concerns early, and grow into additional service lines.
- Pursuit decisions with Estimating and Preconstruction: which bids to chase based on fit, margin, risk, labour capacity and likelihood of award, and the customer intelligence that shapes the pricing.
- The pipeline itself, kept current in the CRM: leads, qualification, forecast, expected awards, win and loss trends, and market intelligence reported to leadership on a regular cadence.
- Marketing coordination: customer insights and project examples for campaigns and qualifications packages, customer-facing presentations, and representing the company at associations and industry events.
- Clean handoffs on award: negotiated scope, price, exclusions, assumptions, schedule and customer commitments passed to Operations and Project Management, with your involvement in kickoff for significant projects.
- Individual revenue, new-logo and pipeline-growth targets.
What we require
- Three or more years of business development, sales or estimating experience in mechanical, plumbing, HVAC or general construction.
- Working knowledge of construction bidding, estimating and project delivery.
- A track record of meeting or beating revenue and pipeline targets.
- Disciplined CRM habits.
- Strong relationship-building, negotiation and presentation skills.
- A valid driver's licence and the ability to travel regularly within the Florida markets served.
What will set you apart
- An established network of general contractors, owners, architects or engineers in Florida construction markets.
- Experience with ServiceTitan, Sage Intacct or similar systems.
- A bachelor's degree in business, construction management, engineering or a related field. Equivalent industry experience is considered in place of a degree.
Location
Florida, based in any of Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando or Tampa. Frequent local and regional travel across the four markets, with some overnight travel for industry events. Your week is a mix of office, client sites and active jobsites, where standard PPE applies. Evening industry events, client entertainment and association functions come with the territory.
Compensation
$80,000 to $105,000 base, placed on experience and the strength of your existing network, plus a performance plan that rewards both pipeline-building activity and closed, profitable revenue.
Why candidates will be interested
- Full-cycle ownership: you find the work, price it with the estimators, negotiate it and hand it off. No split territory, no hand-me-down leads.
- A company-wide commercial seat that works directly with Marketing, Estimating, Operations and leadership.
- Four Florida markets to grow, with a plan that pays for the pipeline you build as well as the revenue you close.
