Preconstruction Lead - Data Center Program (Remote)

The Opportunity

We are partnering with an early-stage data center developer building hyperscale campuses across North America. The delivery team is small, the project pipeline is large, and the company is growing quickly.

This hire owns preconstruction at program level across the whole portfolio: estimating, scheduling and benchmarking. You decide what a project of this scale should cost and how long it should take.

When commercial pressure pushes toward a commitment the delivery team cannot meet, your number is the one leadership leans on. That independent view protects the business, and it sits with you.

What You'll Own

• Build estimates from conceptual through detailed design, across campuses at different stages of maturity.
• Own master program scheduling and schedule validation, including independent challenge of the durations contractors propose.
• Benchmark cost and schedule across the portfolio and against market comparables.
• Feed preconstruction input into lease negotiations, letters of intent and customer commitments, with a realistic read on what can be delivered.
• Hand the estimate and schedule basis to delivery teams at project start, with assumptions and risks written down.

What You Bring

• Depth in both estimating and scheduling. This role covers both.
• Experience supporting commercial negotiations with delivery-side reality.
• The independence and credibility to give leadership an unwelcome answer and hold it.
• Data center preconstruction experience at program level.

Who Gets Our Attention

We look closely at people who started in contractor-side estimating and then moved to the owner side, where the job is oversight of other people's numbers. Breadth counts too: a career that has moved from preconstruction into delivery reads stronger than many years in one function.

Familiarity with both Canadian and US cost bases, including labor, equipment and logistics differentials, is a real advantage. So is experience with self-generation and behind-the-meter power infrastructure.

The Person

You are the person in the room who says what it will really cost and how long it will really take, before the commitment is signed. You can defend that answer to executives who would prefer a different one, and you stay close enough to delivery to know your numbers will hold.

You are comfortable building the method as you go. The company is still writing its processes while the projects move.
