Technical Project Manager - EPCM / Oil & Gas Facilities, Calgary, AB
About the Role
Our Client is seeking a hands-on Technical Project Manager to support the delivery of oil and gas EPCM projects, with a focus on gas facilities, heavy oil, and fast-moving processing work.
This is not a paper-pusher project management role. The successful candidate must be technically credible, comfortable taking ownership of engineering deliverables, and able to lead projects from scope development through execution, commissioning, and close-out.
The role is based primarily in our client's downtown Calgary office and while flexibility may exist, PM-level team members are expected to be in the office most days to support client alignment, technical collaboration, and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of small to medium-sized oil and gas EPCM projects.
* Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, risk, and client expectations.
* Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts, resource plans, and risk registers.
* Provide technical oversight and accountability for project deliverables, including P&IDs, shutdown keys, line lists, drawings, specifications, and supporting project documentation.
* Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, including process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil/structural, and drafting.
* Assign work, monitor progress, remove roadblocks, and ensure deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
* Serve as a key client contact for assigned projects, building strong relationships and providing clear, proactive communication.
* Facilitate project meetings and provide concise updates on scope, schedule, cost, risk, progress, and safety.
* Monitor project costs, commitments, and forecasts, and implement corrective actions when required.
* Manage changes to scope, schedule, and cost through the appropriate change management process.
* Review and approve engineering documents to ensure alignment with client requirements, company standards, and project quality expectations.
* Coordinate procurement support, technical bid reviews, vendor input, consultants, and third-party inspectors as required.
* Support construction and commissioning activities, maintaining a strong interface between engineering, field execution, and client teams.
* Lead project close-out, including as-built documentation, punch lists, lessons learned, and final reporting.
* Support team development through mentorship, technical guidance, and regular career/progress check-ins with PEs, EITs, and project team members.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a technically strong EPCM Project Manager who can balance project delivery, client management, and team leadership. This person should be comfortable leading from both a project and technical perspective, while also working within an established account and delivery structure.

* Comfortable taking technical accountability for your own work and deliverables.
* Experienced in oil and gas facilities, gas processing, heavy oil, or related EPCM project environments.
* Able to manage technical teams ranging from small project groups to larger multidisciplinary teams.
* Confident working directly with clients while keeping internal stakeholders aligned.
* Collaborative, humble, and comfortable leading without needing to be “top dog.”
* Strong in mentorship, especially with developing PEs, EITs, and emerging technical talent.
* Organized, responsive, and able to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
* Technically engaged and willing to get into the details when needed.
Qualifications
* 8+ years of related experience in engineering, project management, or EPCM project delivery.
* Degree or technical diploma in Engineering, Applied Science, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
* P.Eng. or P.L.Eng. registration with APEGA is strongly preferred.
* CETs with strong, genuine EPCM project management experience may also be considered.
* Canadian EPCM experience is preferred; international EPCM experience with
