The Opportunity

We are partnering with an engineering firm delivering oil and gas EPCM projects for producers, with a focus on gas facilities, heavy oil and fast-moving processing work. Its project pipeline is active, and it is hiring a hands-on Technical Project Manager for small to medium-sized projects.

You lead projects from scope development through execution, commissioning and close-out. You are technically accountable for the engineering deliverables as well as the schedule and budget. You lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, act as a key client contact, and mentor the professional engineers and EITs on your projects. The role sits within an established account and delivery structure.

What You'll Own

Planning and control

• Plan, execute and deliver small to medium-sized oil and gas EPCM projects.
• Own scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, risk and client expectations.
• Build project execution plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts, resource plans and risk registers.
• Monitor cost, commitments and forecasts, and take corrective action when required.
• Manage changes to scope, schedule and cost through the change management process.

Technical leadership

• Provide technical oversight of deliverables, including P&IDs, shutdown keys, line lists, drawings, specifications and supporting documentation.
• Review and approve engineering documents against client requirements, company standards and quality expectations.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams across process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil/structural and drafting.
• Assign work, monitor progress and clear roadblocks so deliverables land accurately and on time.

Clients and communication

• Serve as client contact on your projects, with clear and proactive communication.
• Run project meetings and give concise updates on scope, schedule, cost, risk, progress and safety.

Procurement, field and close-out

• Support procurement, technical bid reviews and vendor input, and manage consultants and third-party inspectors.
• Support construction and commissioning, keeping engineering, field execution and the client aligned.
• Close out projects: as-built documentation, punch lists, lessons learned and final reporting.

Mentorship

• Mentor and hold regular progress check-ins with PEs, EITs and project team members.

What You Bring

• 8+ years of related experience in engineering, project management or EPCM project delivery.
• A degree or technical diploma in Engineering, Applied Science, Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
• Experience in oil and gas facilities, gas processing, heavy oil or related EPCM environments.
• A solid grasp of project cost control, scheduling, engineering deliverables, client requirements and project execution.
• Leadership of multidisciplinary technical teams and client-facing project delivery.
• Technical accountability for your own work and deliverables.
• Strong communication, organization, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Who Gets Our Attention

• P.Eng. or P.L.Eng. registration with APEGA (strongly preferred). CETs with substantial EPCM project management experience will also be considered.
• Canadian EPCM experience. International EPCM experience with firms such as Wood, Worley or Jacobs is also relevant.
• Mentoring developing PEs, EITs and emerging technical talent.
• Real project engineering years underneath the project manager title. Six or seven years as a project engineer before moving into project management is the profile the team values most.
• Field experience before you moved into EPC work.
• If you now work on the producer side, earlier EPC years are what count.

The Person

You are technical first. You know what you are comfortable stamping, and you can build a project schedule from scratch without help. You coordinate the full schedule as readily as you redline a P&ID, and in a HAZOP you are the one proposing amendments.
